Introduction to Korean KC Certification

The KC certification in South Korea refers to the certification conducted by the Korea Communications Commission (KCC) to ensure that products circulating in the domestic market comply with relevant safety, environmental protection, electromagnetic compatibility, and other standards. This certification is one of the necessary conditions for selling products within South Korea.

The Korea Testing Research Institute (KTR), Korea Testing Laboratory (KTL), and Korea Testing Certification Organization (KTC) are the three main certification bodies that can provide various certifications for products, including EMC certification and safety certification. The National Radio Research Agency (RRA) and the Korea Communications Commission (KCC) are responsible for EMC certification, while the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency (KOSHA), the Korea Gas Safety Corporation (KGS), and the Korea Testing Laboratory (KTL) are responsible for safety certification. Therefore, the specific institution to choose for KC certification needs to be determined based on the specific situation of the product.

Korean KC is divided into two types: mandatory and voluntary certification

According to the Korean Electrical Appliance Safety Management Act, since January 1, 2009, electrical appliance safety certification has been divided into two types: mandatory certification and self regulatory (voluntary) certification.

1、 Scope of mandatory certification application

Electrical products with a supply voltage between 50V and 1000V require mandatory certification

(1) Telecommunications equipment: mobile phones, wireless network devices, communication terminals, etc;

(2) Information technology equipment: computers, printers, scanners, servers, etc;

(3) Wireless equipment: radio broadcasting equipment, remote control equipment, radar equipment, etc;

(4) Household appliances: TV, air conditioner, refrigerator, washing machine, microwave oven, etc;

(5) Industrial equipment: transformers, motors, generators, industrial automation equipment, etc.

2、 Scope of voluntary certification

Voluntary Certification in South Korea applies to multiple product areas, including but not limited to the following products:

(1) Electric tools and mechanical equipment: drills, hammers, chainsaws, grinders, shears, etc;

(2) Electric heating appliances: electric blankets, electric heaters, electric water heaters, electric ovens, etc;

(3) Lighting equipment: LED lights, fluorescent lights, street lamps, etc;

(4) Batteries and chargers: mobile phone batteries, laptop batteries, power tool batteries, portable power banks, etc;

(5) Household and commercial equipment: consumer electronics, audio and video devices, game consoles, vending machines, etc.
