Kenya PVOC Testing and Certification Services

1、 Certification Introduction

Starting from January 18, 2012, the Kenyan Bureau of Standards has implemented pre shipment conformity certification (PVCO) for goods exported to Kenya. This conformity certification project is used for specific products in specific regions.

2、 Certification process

1. Provide IDF, invoice packing list, inspection report and other materials

2. Submit the application, approve it, and arrange for inspection (supervision of loading)

3. After passing the inspection (supervision of loading), the organization will issue a draft

4. Confirm the draft and issue the original copy

Recently, the Kenya Standards Board (KEBS) and the Medicines and Drugs Board (PPB) issued a joint announcement to all importers of medical devices, food supplements, medical cosmetics, herbal products, and other similar healthcare products. The announcement states that in order to avoid the harm of unqualified products to the Kenyan public, the Pre Export Verification of Conformity (PVOC) program required by KEBS must also be implemented for all related products previously under PPB control. All importers of related products must obtain a Certificate of Conformity (COC) before applying for an import permit from PPB.

This regulation will be officially implemented from September 1, 2017 (arrival date). We would like to remind all friends engaged in exporting related products to Kenya to pay attention in the near future!

The customs codes of the products mainly affected by it can be referred to as follows:

§  2106: Food preparations not elsewhere specified or included

§  3005: Gauges, bandages, weddings and similar articles

§  3006: Other pharmaceutical goods

§  3822: Diagnostic laboratory reagent sand certified reference materials

§  4014, 4015: Hygienic or pharmaceutical products (condoms, examination and surgical gloves mitts and mittens)

§  5601:  Wadding; other articles of wadding – Cotton wadding

§  7017.10: Laboratory, hygienic and pharmaceutical glassware

§  8419.20: Medical,surgical or laboratory sterilizers

§  9001, Optical fibre and optical fibrebundles : optical fibre cables other than those of heading 85.44

§  9004: Spectacles, goggles and the like,corrective, protective or other

§  9018: Instruments and appliances used inmedical, surgical, dental or veterinary sciences including syringes andneedles.

§  9021: Orthopedic appliances, including crutches, surgical belts and trusses; Hearing aids and other appliances which are worn or carried, or implanted in the body, to compensate for a defect or disability, splints and other fracture appliances.

§  9022.12: Computed tomography apparatus

§  9022.13: Other, for dental use

§  9022.14: Other, for medical, surgical or veterinary uses

§  9022.19: Apparatus based on X rays for medical uses

§  9022.21: Apparatus for Alpha, Beta or gamma radiation for medical uses

§  9022.90: X-ray generators, screens and accessories
