The Low Voltage Directive 2014/35/EU aims to ensure the safety of low-voltage equipment during use. The scope of application of this directive is electrical products that use voltages between 50V to 1000V AC and 75V to 1500V DC. This directive includes all safety rules for this equipment, including protection against hazards caused by mechanical reasons. The design and structure of the equipment should ensure that there will be no danger when used under normal working conditions or fault conditions according to its intended purpose.
The components with safety requirements in safety testing include:
-Flexible cables and cords, plugs, socket outlets, couplers, connectors, AC inlets, SOCKET, X/Y capacitors, fuses, switches, thermostats, dimmers, timers, converters, motors, speakers, ballasts, relays, non integral lamp holders, fuse holders.
The CE-LVD testing items are as follows/Test Items:
Power test
Heating test
Humidity test
Glow-wire test
Over Load test
Leakage current measurements
Electric Strength test
Earth continuity test
Cord anchorage test
Stability test
Plug torque test
Impact test
Capacitor discharge test at plug
Fault conditions test
Working voltage measurement
Motor lock-rotor test
Low and high temperature test
Tumbling test
Insulation resistance test
Ball pressure test
Screw Torque test
Needle flame test
1. Prepare 2-4 complete samples of the main test (series test) model;
2. If specialized tools are required for assembly, they should be provided randomly;
3. If the product needs to work normally under special loads, samples should be sent together with the load to ensure that the product can work properly;
4. For products that require accessories (controllers, connecting cables, software, etc.) to function properly, they should be properly connected so that the product can function properly;
5. For products that require a charger, a charger must be provided (marked on the product that the charger does not require testing);
6. For products such as transformers that require potting, potting (SEALED) and non potting (UNSEALED) samples should be provided separately.
7. According to the requirements of the testing company, provide some important or unassembled components, such as thermal links, rheostat or resistance, circuit breakers.
The CE system of LVD is similar to the EMC directive, and all products within the applicable scope must have the CE mark and a declaration of conformity signed by the manufacturer's representative or importer.
A simple self declaration is not sufficient to determine that a product is safe ("safe" is defined as not causing injury or financial damage to personnel or livestock). For this reason, LVD's declaration needs to be supported by technical documentation to prove it.
The technical certification documents must include:
1. General description of the equipment
2. Conceptual design and manufacturing drawings
3. Understand the necessary descriptions and explanations for these patterns
4. List all or part of the applicable standards and describe the measures taken to meet the safety perspective of the directive
5. Calculation results of design and inspection of execution process
6. Test report
1-5 The above information;
6 Product nameplates
7. Key component list (refer to Appendix 2 "Sample Component List" for format);
Including the name of the component manufacturer, product model, and technical parameters (rated current, voltage, power, flame retardant rating, etc.);
8. Copy of valid safety certification certificate for key components.
(1) Adopt the standards negotiated by the European Community;
(2) If there is no negotiated standard for the product, the manufacturer's own national standard shall be used;
(3) Directly using LVD. In this case, it is recommended to consult an authoritative national certification agency.
The CE mark is a self declaration by manufacturers that their products comply with relevant EU directives, including the Low Voltage Directive (LVD), Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive (EMC), etc. In order to clearly indicate that the product complies with its low voltage directive, the CE mark must be marked on the product. If the CE mark cannot be marked on the product, it can also be marked on the product packaging, user manual, or warranty (guarantee). The way manufacturers use the CE mark to indicate their products is to inform the governments of the European Community that their products are legally sold and meet the official requirements included in the CE mark. However, the CE mark is not a recognized mark by consumers, but only a recognized mark allowed for import by the governments of various European Union countries.
