The Ministry of Trade (MOT) of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia has made legal and technical regulatory requirements for regulated products entering the country covered by 124 mandatory standards in Ethiopia.

All imported controlled products must undergo compliance assessment by reviewing their existing certificates and valid test reports. Subsequently, product inspection and testing will be conducted (if necessary), and a certificate of conformity must be presented during customs clearance at the port of Ethiopia.

The requirements for goods entering Ethiopia include:

It should be confirmed that the controlled goods meet the corresponding recognized standard requirements. The conformity confirmation process may include physical inspection of the goods and sampling for testing (if necessary).

The testing must be conducted in an accredited laboratory that complies with the ISO17025 standard.

The certificate of conformity is issued by an accredited independent third-party inspection company prior to shipment and is used for customs clearance of goods at the entry point in Ethiopia.

3、 Operation process:

1. Submit a formal invoice containing the address information of the importer and exporter;

2. Submit existing product testing reports;

3. If necessary, please provide information such as HS CODE, product images, material, purpose, factory ISO certificate, etc. to help confirm audit standards more quickly;

4. The technical department reviews the documents. Approved the appointment for inspection;

5. On the second day of inspection, notify the re examination results. After passing the inspection, the goods can be shipped and the final confirmed packing list and invoice will be submitted for certification.

The test report required above should be issued by a laboratory with ISO/IEC 17025 qualification (in China, it is a laboratory with CNAS qualification). The goods that have been reviewed and inspected by us and issued a COC certificate will not undergo frequent sampling tests or inspections upon arrival in Ethiopia, which is undoubtedly beneficial for importers. Can you provide us with product information and HS CODE to confirm if the product is included in the mandatory inspection catalog.

The product labels and instructions (if any) should be in English or Amharic.
